Reviving Cultural Heritage Through Modern Design: The Deshan Decang Project

The Deshan Decang project is a unique blend of tradition and innovation. The design takes the shape of a wallet, a significant symbol in ancient China where it was used to store gold and silver. This concept is fittingly applied to the liquor bank, where each bottle of wine is seen as a hidden treasure, a testament to the value of time and the unique taste that comes with fermentation. The design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also carries a profound cultural significance, bridging the gap between the past and the present.

Wang Qi Jun's design stands out for its environmental consciousness. The packaging uses environmentally friendly materials and a non-locking structure. The bottles are made of ceramic, allowing the wine to re-ferment within, adding to its unique taste. The Deshan Decang project was a collaborative effort, with Wang Qi Jun leading the design and assisted by Li Zhe-ying and Yi Xing. The project began in August 2017 and concluded in May 2018. The design was completed in Changsha, Hunan, with proofing carried out in Liling, Hunan, and production in Changde, Hunan.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was to make consumers accept the concept of a liquor bank and form a habit around it. However, the design's unique properties and cultural significance have made it a hit among consumers, showcasing the power of innovative design in shaping consumer behavior.
